WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 2025

The basis for Skybox’s success lies in the hard work and achievement of our employees. We are highlighting each of our team members from various departments to share their impact on Skybox and what makes them the heartbeat of our organization.

“Nick is a multi-talented professional that brings a myriad of skills to his role. With his calm analytical demeanor, he is able to navigate through the fast and complex challenges of Data Center cost management. His efficient, analytical approach to cost management has earned him a reputation as a trusted advisor both to customers and vendors alike.” - SVP Construction, Ken Clausen

How did you get into the data center industry?
I’m originally from Austin, TX, but moved to Dallas to attend SMU, where I earned my degree in Mechanical Engineering. After college, I worked for a company that prepared and assessed damages for construction lawsuits. That role gave me a firsthand look at how things can go wrong on construction projects—and I found that I really enjoyed the cost analysis side of it, too. That combination set me up well for a transition into project controls.

Skybox first came onto my radar through Haynes Strader, whom I knew from my time at SMU. I had the chance to learn about the company, meet some of the team, and was eventually hired as a Project Cost Manager. Looking back, I consider myself incredibly lucky to have connected with Skybox when I did. The team is one of a kind, and we’re doing incredible things in the constantly evolving data center space.

What is one thing we don’t know about you?
I love all things aviation. Whether it’s commercial, private, military, or aerospace—I enjoy learning about the history and engineering of planes. I’m a frequent user of flight tracking apps and am always curious about what’s flying overhead, where it’s coming from, and where it’s going. My wife, Mackenzie, plays along in hopes that this hobby will turn into more travel plans for us!

What makes working for Skybox different?
Skybox stands out because of how the leadership team has built the organization. It’s a company rooted in trust and transparency, and that empowers the team to succeed. Everyone here would say something similar—Skybox is different because of the people. It’s truly special to be a part of, and it makes me excited to come to work every day.

What was your favorite project or lesson learned?
One of the first projects I worked on after college involved preparing a productivity claim for a pipeline contractor in the midst of a complex dispute during the construction of a large natural gas pipeline. I gained valuable experience in cost analysis and learned how to evaluate the economic impact of delays and inefficiencies. We ultimately secured a favorable outcome for the client.

My favorite project at Skybox is PowerCampus Austin. It’s been incredible to see the progress since I joined in December 2023. Every time I visit the site, the scale of what we’re building really hits home. And working on such a significant project so close to where I grew up makes it all the more meaningful.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love working closely with our internal team, partners, and customers. While I mainly focus on the financial aspects of our projects, staying connected to the technical side of our buildings keeps things exciting. Seeing a project through from start to finish is so rewarding. And being part of a company on the leading edge of data center development during such a transformative time for the industry is both humbling and energizing.

What is your favorite way to spend your time off?
In our free time, my wife Mackenzie and I love taking long walks around Dallas and trying out the city’s endless new restaurants. I’ve loved golf since I was a kid and still enjoy playing and watching the game. I’m also a huge fan of SMU Athletics—you can find me at basketball games and organizing tailgates with friends on The Boulevard before football games.

If you had to choose one “toxic trait” for yourself, what would it be?
I have a weakness for Chinese food and eat it all the time. I seem to bypass any notion that it might be bad for me. Those who know me well know I spend a little too much time thinking about Panda Express and their legendary “OC” (orange chicken)!
